Stamp Collecting Albums

Stamp collecting albums range from inexpensive books to very elaborate and expensive works of art. From the novice collector to the serious investor, choosing the right album is an important decision.

Some people enjoy collecting stamps but really have no interest in displaying them. Maybe they just enjoy procuring stamps from different parts of the world. They care nothing about organization so they never even buy an album. Serious collectors would be appalled to find that many collectors simply put their stamps in a shoe box. Then whenever they want to look at their stamps, they open the box and enjoy. Of course, the shoe box doesn’t protect the stamps from damage. Obviously, no one would keep really expensive stamps in a box.

Many hobby stores carry very simple stamp collecting albums. They are generally inexpensive and very simple. These are perfect for the young collector. The only problem with these simple books is that once the stamps are put in the book, they should never be removed. Therefore, if the novice collector becomes a serious collector, his earliest stamps will be in an inferior book.

A very good idea before you purchase an album is to talk to other collectors about their albums. These collectors will be more than happy to share with you the ups and downs of buying an album. Look at as many collectors’ albums as possible before you actually make a purchase.

In some of the larger cities, there are stamp collecting conventions. At these stamp shows, you will find many commercial vendors who sell stamp albums. The great thing about these stamp shows is that you can see all of the albums that are available and decide which is the best one for your needs.

Many stamps are pre-printed and are arranged into thematic pages. Some pre-printed albums even include a picture of the stamp and important information about the stamp. You simply attach your stamp to the space provided and you are on your way to stamp collecting. These are particularly great for beginners.

If you are collecting stamps from all of the countries of the world, you might want to choose a pre-printed book because they usually contain maps of the world so that you can keep track of which country you still stamps from.

For the very serious stamp collector, there is the choice of creating his own album. Often they use calligraphy to make their stamp pages beautiful and exciting. The computer is also another way to make a stamp page.

Taking time and effort to choose just the right stamp album is very important to the collector. With the right album, years and years of happy stamp collecting lie ahead.
